The Difficulty League

An algorithm’s ability to determine the variation in difficulty between different degrees at universities within the United Kingdom.

Introduction

With an increase of eighty thousand students studying bachelor’s degrees over the last five-year period (Higher Education Statistics Agency, 2019), the relevance of ensuring that institutes provide a consistency within degree difficulty is becoming more of a hot topic. In order for students to compare institutes there are many university comparison league tables, however no such service exists in order to objectively determine and compare the difficulty of a degree. This project attempts to develop an algorithm that takes into account the many factors contribute to degree difficulty. Due to the scale of such a large and complex problem, this project will focus on just computing bachelor’s degrees provided by universities in the United Kingdom.
